I'm hardly the target audience for hip-hop, so when I noticed this
album I wasn't expecting much. Which I don't mean as a value
judgment. In fact I mean it as a lack of judgment judgment; that is,
that I lack the basis to judge this particular genre. (We'll leave my
right to judge other genres for another time.)
Anyway, I was surprised and impressed when I put on
The
Garden, and then followed up with
Metrorail
Thru Space; both are upbeat and melodic and not at all what I
associate with hip-hop. On the other hand,
What's
the Altitude and
Storm
are more what I did expect. Not my kind of music, although I'll give
them a few more listens to be sure. Which I guess is my point, that
there's enough variety here to get me to take notice. Which I hope
doesn't screw up the demographic too much. I haven't ruined the curve
this bad since high school math...
